I can only assume they're related. I'm doing my best to help him, he has a vet appointment tomorrow. See my older posts for the full story.

Basically I'm wondering what these are and how to treat? Vet will have ideas, but he appreciates my crowdsourced input as well.

1. Make sure your tank is clean
2. Don't feed your axolotl too too much. Reduce feeding.
3. Add things that eat mites in the tank.

Also I did some research and axolotls have a good resistance to cancer, You should be fine for the time being as long as it doesn't grow too much. Also axolotls are even more resistant when exposed to carcinogens.

i would not recommend #2 and #3, their axolotl seems to be at a healthy weight, and axolotls can be cohabbed with very few other species (for several different reasons)

i cannot clearly see what the "mites" are, but i don't think they're harmful. i have similar creatures in my tank, they're just zooplankton. i cannot be sure of this, as i can't see the "mites" very well, but i've never heard of anything like this being harmful to an axolotl. summoning @wolfen for a second opinion.

also, i'm sorry to hear about the cancer diagnosis, that is truly terrible luck.

there are mites in the tank (as was previously shown on a previous thread) whether they are harmful or not is unknown (chances are they are plant/waste related) the medication for treatment for mites is Ivermectin (which has also been linked with cellular growth in axolotls) the medication has to come from vet.
looks like the area has grown and is starting to look similar to vorticella infection (as noted by the spots) nitrofurazone my be of use (again speak to vet)
