The upgrade

So i spent somewhere close to 200$ upgrading my newts tank. And it was completely worth it.

This is what it used to look like ( a 10 gallon covered in hardwater.. not enough water tank

to a 20 gallon. a new stand..and pretty colors and fun toys.

Maybe, this is just a suggestion, she'd like a completely dry haulout. It seems like most of what is in the tank is not entirely dry. Although I am by no means a newt psychologist, many newts climb, and my guess is that it is to "dry" out. I've always pondered why they climb, but thats a different thread. The tanks looks great though, quite a nice upgrade.

If the newt was just put into a new setup, it's normal for them to climb. Some newts do this any time there's a major change in their tank. She will probably settle down in a day or two.

Regarding a completely dry haulout... I think this is just asking for trouble. When a C. orientalis gets dry skin, they often refuse to go back into the water. Then you have to deal with how to feed a newt out of water.

Regarding the tank, I think you could still raise the water level just a bit more. Also, you need to be careful that the water under the gravel slope does not become stagnant and dirty. Otherwise, nice tank.

When I find someone's camera to borrow, I'll have to post a picture. I've completely redone by CO tank and it looks great. I had a setup similar to this and hated it due to the gravel cleaning issue.

Now i have two large rocks stacked (securely) on top of each other and the water is about 3/4 of the tank full. It's wonderful because there's a decent amount of land, rock crevices for my newt to explore, lots more swimming room, and when I want to clean the gravel I just lift the two big rocks out and clean away like any old fish tank.
