I've gone and done it again, but this time, I spent money not on Gem, but on a new tank buddy. For the moment, I've just been calling her Copper because of her colour, but I will have to find a better name soon. So far, it's been interesting.

They met face to face, one of them moved and they both swam away, as if they scared each other. Copper is almost the same size as Gem, so there's little competition there, but she sure has an appetite! I put some axi pellets in the water, they floated down and she ate 2 in one gulp!

I took some pics with my new phone's cam, turns out they're quite large pics. The last pic is of Gem, when she swam up behind the filter :p

looking good! from here it looks like your new axie has had a nip on the tail in the past. I love the speckled tail.

Yeah, one of the axi's in the pet store tank was a tad feisty and was picking fights.

Just took this pic. I've heard them either fighting or being scared of each other, but it's almost like a love/hate relationship. 'I want to be friends cause I'm lonely, but I dont like you' lol and yet they end up like this:

Was looking everywhere for Gem, then found her. . .

And if you look closely, you can see Copper in the corner

How did you introduce them together? I'm looking to introduce some axies to my Bojangles in the near future!

Very sweet axies btw, love the colour of Copper! :D

Yeah, I gave up and I'm just going to call her Copper  I introduced them by just floating the bag Copper came in, in the tank water for about 10mins, then, slowly tipped the bag, while in the tank water, into the tank. Gem and Copper arn't the best of friend exactly, but because of the size of the tank and the amount of hides they have, it's very easy for them to have one end of the tank each

Also, I tried to make sure that the new axi I got was about Gem's size and age and was the same sex, as I dont want eggs :nono: So, if you're tank's not as big as mine (just over 4ft), just watch both of the axi's when you join them in the same tank and if they fight a lot, you might have to put in a divider

I'm also planning on adding another axi next week :D

They were face to face, right in front of me while I was sitting and watching them. Copper made a nudge forward to say hi and Gem darted away! It was funny because Gem has, until now, acted like the boss of the tank.

It seems like Gem prefers sitting on the floating plants, right near the surface, sometimes sticking her nose just above the water. Copper on the other hand, hasn't left the bottom of the tank. For the moment, I think it's all working out fine, at least until the the other new arrival comes next week  :D

Love it! It's so much fun getting a new axie! What colour are you thinking of getting?

I posted in the sick axi thread about an axi I was going to buy at the pet store, but she had swallowed a stone. I was really glad that they removed the stones from the tank  She's pink and somewhat smaller then Gem, but she seemed to get along with Copper ok in the pet store tank. Don't know what I'm going to call her, but I've time before I have to pick her up.

Just picked up the new newbie from the pet store  I'm going to call her Anda, as it means 3 particular words: adventurous, bold, journey. As soon as I floated her bag in the tank, she wanted to get out of it and as soon as I put her in the tank, she went exploring :D Pics will be coming soon.

Are you making sure you are quarantining them, Beck?

Coppers tail is absolutely stunning, what a pretty sparkly thing she is.

I'm sorry, but what do I need to quarantine them for? There has been no signs of stones or fungus or anything, I have been watching them all carefully, they havn't even been fighting. I've been checking the water and doing tests regularly and changing the water once per week. I managed to keep Gem alive, happy and sick free for about 9months now, and both copper and Anda has settled in just fine.

I'm sorry, but what do I need to quarantine them for?

Perhaps this is the nature of the tinterwebz, but that came across as a little unnecessarily defensive!

I wasn't suggesting there was anything wrong with Gem, your tank, or setup at all. Your lovely new additions could be harbouring something they picked up at the fish store, or even from the breeder, that could harm Gem.

A 30-day quarantine period is recommended, this makes sure most of the nasties would have made themselves apparent in that time.

Sorry, I'm just a rather blunt person, didnt mean to come across defensive or anything, I've just never heard of quarantining them before. What kind of nasties are you talking about? Fungus? Gem seems fine for the moment. I'm hoping that the nasties you're talking about can be seen. As I said before, I keep an eye on them, check all of them as best I can.

I understand that you're trying to help me and Gem. If I had heard of quarantining before I got either of the new additions, I would have done so, but what's done is done. They're both in the tank with Gem and so far there haven't been any problems. Sorry If it seems like I've come across as anything other then honest and worrying.

Here's some pics of Anda

They are all lovely. I suggest that you just keep a close watch on them all for a few days. If you see any agression you may need to divide the tank but usually as long as you have lots of hides where they can go if needed should be ok. As for nasties all you can do there is to watch again and make sure they all remain healthy.
