The new season

It seems to be starting off with a bang. My first marm group has started and my second group is showing good signs. My dobrogicus gave me an early batch in September and are starting laying again. Some of last seasons apaunus are laying eggs for me allready and both the father and mother both still have gill buds Their parents look like they'll be kicking in again soon. Looks like the start of a good season, enough babies to raise to keep me off the streets and out of trouble, (although with all the snow we've been getting in Colorado, at times you can't see the streets for days)Hope everyone had a good Holiday season.

Yes they do, and as of this morning 3 of my 5 baby quads are producing eggs an the other 2 look good too. Most of the rest of them are without gill buds though

Great news Dave, you should get some sort of medal for services to European newts.
My marms (see how small they were: http://www.caudata.org/forum/messages/985/43652.jpg) have now got to breeding age. They are still cooling at around 10 degrees C but the males have already entered the water and are getting ready for action. I can’t wait for the full crests to develop. Hopefully it’ll be a busy season all round.

I can't believe how quickly the male cloaca swells when they enter the water.

Nice looking animals Mark. Hopefully it's a great season for all of us. I pulled about 20 baby apaunus out this morning and started pulling some of the more eggs laiden plants into another tank.

I must admit you have a beautiful Newts there!! he is very pretty xxx
