So, today, I looked at my lovely little Kujo and found that his feed are huge, his gills are tiny and his big, paddle-lookin' tail is fat and no longer paddle-lookin'!

Imagine my surprise! I have had him for no longer than a week!
I have a leaky 20g tank and a 10g tank that I can set up for him. I would like to have a small area for him to swim and such and a larger area for dirt and plant and such. I am completely new to this!

If anyone can tell me what I need and am able to get for super cheap (I have almost NO MONEY!) that would be great! I doubt I have a day or two to get this all set up, he's changin' fast!

*According to people much more experienced than myself, Kujo is a Tiger.

How do I keep the tank cool enough for him? I live in Houston, Texas so it's hot! If I need a chiller, I'm going to need some money!

Acceptable for now?

Okay, nobody answered my last thread. I'm kinda freain' out, here because I have nowhere to put my Tiger right now except a tank full of water. I have a 10g with pool filter sand and plants. However, the filter I have for that is a waterfall filter and it would be really loud so I wouldn't be able to sleep (and mom hates amphibians  so I can't move him out of my room.)

If I placed a large, soft rock with like... a towel and a cave on it in my 10g with pool filter sant and a few guppies in it, would that be okay? I just want him to be somewhat comfortable until I get enough money to set him up in a chilled enclosure. I probably won't be able to do this for another month or so.

I am willing to do daily waterchanges and I already have a tank for him but I don't have any supplies. I was told he would morph "When he wanted to but not within this year".... Thanks fish shop guy...

I just really, really want to work with this but I don't have any supplies or any money.

Re: Acceptable for now?

sorry if I come by as a little snippy... with my last high school year coming up on monday and a salamander changing before I'm ready at all  I'm a little frustrated and frazzled.

I don't have any personal experience with tigers (unfortunately), but have you had a look at this? Tiger caresheet

It may give you a better idea of how far along he is. As far as keeping his tank cool, a house fan aimed so that is blowing across the surface of the water. The agitation does help to cool the water (I experienced a 4 degree drop on my axolotl tank) If you have a hood on the tank, removing it will definitely help too. Here is an article about cooling an aquarium - Cooling.

However, once your tiger becomes terrestrial, don't use the fan as it could dry him out. Hope this helps some. Take care!

Yes, I had a look at that three or four times. I need to know what type of dirt to get and things of the sort. I know that I can saw a PVC pipe in half to give him a cave and burry it and I know he needs a water area but I just need information on how to do it and what specific things I need.

Re: Acceptable for now?

While he's changing, just be sure he has plenty of places to climb above the water - rocks or whatever. Lower the water level. If the filter won't work with a lower water level, just stop using the filter. Be sure the tank has a secure lid.

Can you find a sweater box plastic tote of some kind? Poke some holes in it and line it with paper towels dampened with non-chlorinated water. Change towels daily. Once the sal's gills are completely gone, this will be acceptable housing until you get something else set up.

Thank you!

Re: Acceptable for now?

Alright, so I've drained my ten gallon to about two inches of water. I have a block of coconut fiber stuff soaking in water. Is he going to be fine in a coconut fiber substrate with a slope into the water? With some plants in there... What are good, easy plants that stay small? (any plant not aquatic, I kill) I will soon be moving him into a 20g tank but this was the best I could come together with in the little time he gave me to prepare.
