The downside to maggots

I've been feeding my young strauchii and some of my smaller newts (carpathians)maggots. They're smaller then waxworms, more active and I heard they're less fatty. The down side is if you overfeed they burrow and the next thing you know you've got alot of huge flies. Be sure you tank has a screen top and don't put in more than you can actually watch them eat. I fed the flies to a couple of tiger sals

LOL, yes, I've had this experience. Fortunately, the flies you get are rather slow-moving and fairly easy to swat. My husband is not too happy when they get about the house though.

I suggest piercing the skin of each maggot with a pin or a needle. The skins are very tough and they can be indigestible otherwise. This is also a problem if you do not want flesh-eating maggots alive inside your pets!

Hello. I just noticed two notches, white small bubbles on the hind legs of one of my male newts.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
