Okay so maybe I'm a little bias since I made this tank myself. But what can I say? This set up will only work for juvie axolotl, but at the same time it has also kept my axolotl very happy and very healthy for about a year. The water in this tank is kept at 61 degrees year round.
This is a five gallon tank in a working wine cooler. The wine cooler is just barely turned on (the lowest setting) during the winter months and then turned to '1' during the summer. Once she has reached a size where she needs to be in a larger tank I will get a square tank with a square stand and set up a sump system in the wine cooler and run the water through the wine cooler and then up into the tank to keep it cold (cheap chiller system), and hide the cooler under the stand. Or I will break down and buy a JBJ arctic nano chiller. I got Bluebell when she was about an inch long and she is pushing four-five inches now.
I had the filter out for cleaning in this shot, but I use one of those in tank Bio whispers that is run by a bubbler, it works great since it just trickles. I drilled a hole in the side of the cooler to run the air hose through.
Also a great place to keep your red wiggler worms!! They are happy in their little blue container (until they get feed)
She's the greatest little critter, eats right out of my hand and always comes to the front glass to see if it's feeding time!
