New to the forum, so first of all: Hi!
I was at a reptile show this weekend and saw some salamanders labled as "Texas Barred Salamanders." They were adorable and I'm in love... but I wanted to do my research BEFORE bringing one home. I haven't found any info on Texas Barred Salamanders but my search results do come up with "Barred Tiger Salamander" ... so my question is: Are these just two different names for the same salamander? Or is there a difference? I want to be sure so I don't end up setting up a habitat for the wrong critter!

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello Alioop and welcome to the forum,

I believe Texas Barred Salamander are the same thing as Barred Tiger Salamanders. I'm glad yo see you did some research before getting a salamander as a pet. I own two eastern tiger salamanders and they are a blast.
Here is the care sheet for Tiger Salamanders. This should give you all the information you need to make a set-up and care for them. If you have anymore questions, you can always use the search function to look at older threads and if you don't find your answers feel free to post them.
Good luck.

I have a barred tiger salamander. I don't know anything about it being called "Texas" barred. I have a couple of places online that sells them if interested I can give you the sites. Just let me know.

Amy, Yes I would be interested in those site! Thanks!!

I have used reptilecity and swaneesexotics. I haven't used the other two. I liked swaneesexotics the best he sent pictures before he sent my barred tiger out so i could see what he looked like. He charges 35.00 for shipping.

** Editor: Please note that many (if not all) commercial entities mass-collect their animals. Tiger salamanders are NOT captive bred. They harvest these animals in the early spring when they are spawning. This effectively diminishes regional populations by removing breeding adults from the population**
