Terracotta hide ,how do I set up?

Hello I am just wondering, what I need to do to make sure that it is safe to put up two new terracota pots into Axle's tank as hides. I have bought some river stones to hold them in place in the tank for him. I dont have any sand in the tank because Axle is still young and i dont want him eating sand.

So do i need to wash the items? if so is there a particular way to wash them that is recommended.

If they're plain old terracotta, rinse them in hot water and put them in. They stay down by themselves, and are just natural clay. No worries on these ones. I have 5 in multiple tanks.

Thank you for replying I have put one teraccota hide in so far, the so now there are two in the tank ( counting th efake log one I already had.
