Hi
I know my water temperature should be around 19 but as everyone knows its starting to get hot so mines now at 23.5. i no this isn't good for them but they r showing no signs of stress, and they are still eating fine! should i be stressing about the water temperature? what is the best way to keep it cold?

well i see your in aussie so this is only the start of your problems (dont mean to worry you lol). fans faced at the water may work for a while but once your temps get up more id say the fridge is a better option for you, unless you have the time to invest in swapping ice bottles constantly or have the dough to buy a chiller. have a read around here, youll see alot of people have the same probs and might find some more ideas to keep your water cool

I am me - l wouldnt be stressing TOO MUCH just yet.
As Sharn said, this is the start of our problems.
Whats been mentioned on this site (somewhere in another post yet to find it again LOL) and what l also believe is that aussie axies have adjusted to the temp here in Oz. Im not saying that its best for them to be in 23 etc degree waters but they are more hardier re temp.

Id start saving for an ice probe (at least, depending on the size of your tank ofcourse) coz that will make a drastic change in temp ESPECIALLY if you have the fans aswell.
I come home to find my tank water above 23 sometimes and my axies are fine. As l said before im not saying that this is the best temp for them, cooler waters they are more "comfortable", but for now they should be right.

Try and use the ice method like Sharn said for the time being, wouldnt want your axies to get ill or anything

If you go to www.Axolotl.org you will find that the acceptable temperature rage of axies extends to 24C so 23.5C isn't that bad compared to many other people battling with heat.

Partially insulating your tank helps too. I have insulated the bottom, back and both sides with 6mm black foam/rubber stuff from clark rubber.

This slows the re-heating rate of you tank when you cool it with ice bottles. This combined with cooling fans does wonders, however with the high humidity and 35C temperatures from the last few days even this setup falls short.

My guys are at 27 by the time i get home from work. Mind you at 27 they are only just starting to show signs of stress. (time for some refreshing ice bottles)

Tank chillers are the only real fix for this heat problem, but unless you have close to $1000
to spend, there isn't much more you can do.

If you do figure out something please share it with the rest of us.

Also if you read any old posts about making coolers from old fridges, you are really only wasting your time. These setups don't work.

Now if you dont mind i will get back to grumbling about the heat to myself.

Grumble Grumble Moan Bitch Grumble. LOL
