Temperature rising

Well, they decided to turn on the heat in the dorms today. What was a nice 62-degree tank has now turned into a 70-degree tank and I'm scared it will get warmer. The old 10 gallon aquarium was easy to cool down with water bottles, but the 30 gallon may prove to be a bit more of a challenge. We'll see what happens. Wish me luck!

How do you keep a 30 gallon in the dorms? I'm going to be facing the same problem next year. I've decided to send off my rare temp sensitive species to friends, and just keep some hardy stuff that can tolerate warm temps, it might be in your best interest, and the sals to do the same.

Technically we're not supposed to have tanks that big in the dorms. I don't have a room mate, so I have an unused desk. The problem I have is that the only species of newt I can get around here is a t. granulosa, so I'm stuck trying to keep the temp down.

I have a 1 gallon jug of frozen water that I'm about to throw into the tank. That'll be fun

2 frozen gallons of water later, and the tank is back at 62 degrees. I worry about this aquarium more than I worry about my grades. That can't be good. LOL

Am I ahead of my time, or is frozen water more commonly referred to as ice?

Don't worry about that, Aaron never had a proper kindergarten education so he feels like he has to make it up other ways - an inferiority complex I think.

. Sorry aaron, but you set yourself up for that one.

So, Lane, got any eggs yet this season? We'll see what a kindergarten education means when it comes to important life skills, like breeding caudates.

I'd be happy if I could just find a female. Dumb pet store here isn't carrying anything right now, so I'm stuck with a lonely male in a 30 gallon aquarium.

Erik, you're in need of females also? Seems to me that many people have male granulosa and need females, including myself. I'll keep an eye out and snag some up if I can find some definate females.

I'm pretty sure I need females. It's rather difficult to tell, and it would probably help if I had 2 to compare to be absolutely sure.

Actually Aaron if you'd like some N v dorsalis eggs I'll send them to you, because they do seem to be breeding. Maybe if you talk to me next spring I could send you some more eggs, the rest of my salamanders should be mature by then. As for my Pachyhynobius, I'll admit, I haven't bred them yet. Maybe you could ask some other people who keep them for some eggs, but the thing is they don't seem to ever have been bred in captivity before.
Also Erik, I may have some Taricha rivularis (red bellied newts) available if you'd like. I'll give them to you free of charge, I'll pay shipping even. They were for this one guy in Wisconsin, goes by the name babamba, but I don't know that I want to give them to him anymore. Oh wait, I think Aaron is babamba...

Ooh...rivularis. I can't find anything other than friggin' granulosa around here and it pisses me off.

Hi Lane,

I would be interested in T.rivularis too. We just started a stud book for this species in Europe (I am the keeper of it). Would you be interested in any exchage?
Where are you located.
