Hi all,

I set up my new tank yesterday in preparation for my new axolotl who will be arriving in the coming weeks. The tank is in the coldest room and I'm also in Ireland which is pretty cold all year around anyway!

I added the water yesterday and it was 17 degrees. Today it's 20 degrees. I have read the axolotl.org temperature and cooling section which mentions the ice bottle. Any further advice or tips about cooling options is much appreciated.

Those temperatures are actually just fine. I really wouldn't start to worry unless it got up to around 23 degrees.

Oh okay, I was hoping to get it between 14 - 18 but if you think 20 is okay great. Thanks!

As the rest say 20 is fine so dont stress :)

My house is warm all year round so in the summer I tend to use clip on fans and I have found those to be very effective at cooling the tanks down :D

It went up to 21 and today is 22.

if its going to be that high for a day or two you can use frozen bottles of water. but if temp is going to keep going up, you might want to invest in a chiller.

have you tried the fan?
and if you have a fan you can add an air stone and itll drop 1-2 degrees, the bubbles increase surface area therefor allowing for more evaporation.

luck!
