Should'nt that ball of Kryptonite be green?

John or Jennewt, could you correct the spelling of the species name in my title to read Taricha torosa -- or better yet, "Super Taricha"

(FYI, my moderator powers don't extend to this particular section)

Mike, if it was Kryptonite, I'd think it'd be swimming away from it

Hooray, Taricha photos.

I still think it's a granulosa. Can I put this picture on my website? (Acknowledging you, of course.)

Ha! I just knew if I put a Taricha picture on my hook I'd get a bite from Pin-pin

But you appear to have missed this one:

Sure, go ahead and use it on your site, I'd feel honored...but if you get sued by the Superman folks for copyright infringement...girl, I've never even heard of you before

I agree with you that these are seriously cool newts. It seems strange to me that people in North America should be chasing after Cynops when they have the option of Taricha. I only have this pair, but I'm thinking of getting a few more and moving them to a large, centrally located tank because they're endlessly fascinating to watch.

Torosa, granulosa...as I think I said in previous posts, I really don't know and have even forgotten what to look for. That's your area of excellence

Last I recall though, the differentiation by upper eyelid color was declared bogus, and jaw structure was the thing to look at. I'll take a look at Petranka's book when it arrives next week from Amazon and see what he has to say about it.

Hei Tim,
it is a Taricha granulosa female !
100 %!!!

Regards
Andreas

tim,
we do keep taricha alot-they are the 2nd or 3rd most easy to get newt off the pet trade (they even used to sell them at wal-mart!). we seek cynops(other than orientalis-which is the #1 easy to get newt) because we CANT get them and some can handle higher temps.

tis weird if their the 2nd or 3rd most easy to get how come i cant find any anywhere :p ive been looking for a pair for a while now with no such luck paris if you have any information on where i can find a pair of them in the richmond va area id be much appreciative

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
