Can anyone help me with suggestions on setting up a 20g long aquarium for an axolotl. My son has one that we are going to move to the 20g long. I'm mainly looking for suggestions on a good filter for that size and anything that is able have a low flow. Any other suggestions for landscape ideas that are not super difficult to maintain?

He has had his axolotl about 8 months, so we aren't completely new, but his current aquarium is bare bottomed with some decorations for hiding. We just want to upgrade and get everything and improve for the axolotl.

Thanks!

i recommend a bare bottom tank, as it has proven to be easiest for cleaning. i use elodea (which can be free floating or rooted) and my axolotl loves it. hides are also important, i have a coconut shell hide as well as a 3d printed one from stroodies, but the elodea provides enough shade that she hardly uses them. i personally use a sponge filter, but others prefer canister filters or HOB filters- it all depends on what you're looking for. keep in mind that your new tank will have to be cycled (this takes 6-8 weeks, unless you have seeded filter media) before putting your axolotl in.
i'll attach pictures of my tank below

(i made this lid myself, i can provide instructions if youre interested :>)
