duckweed is growing like crazy

also got java moss poked into crevices of the root and growing well.
still looking for a decent background picture, i'm thinking small pebbles or some kind of root system like on a river bank "any ideas" ???
the tank is nearly ready for my axies to go in

just starting to show Nitrate, approx how much longer do u recon till it's cycled ?

Rob, I like how you have it set up now, but may I make a suggestion?

I would take out the long grass looking plants. The java moss will eventually take over a good portion of the rock's surface area, and that will add greenary to the tank. The big fluffy plant in the middle, it will also grow and spread, and really add color and life

Tall plants should be placed in the back, medium plants in the middle, and short plants in the front to add depth. I'm trying to go for this in my tank

Other than that, I think your tank is perfect and so pretty. I could spend all day looking at a tank like that

Yes, and your duckweed really is taking over isn't it lol. Soon you will find that you have to thin it out because it will take over so much that it will start to clump in little balls under the water's surface, and you get duckweed all over your arm when you clean lol. Happens to me every time!

If your tank is already into the Nitrate cycle, give it another week and test it again. If it is still not there, just give it a few more days after that. Things sound like they are in order

. Plants soften water, so if your water suddenly becomes soft, just add some sea shells, and that will help bring the PH back up.

WOW Rob, looks great!

I LOVE THE PLANTS!!! Im a big plants buff too!! No tank would look as good as a tank that has a variety of different plants. I love individual colour of each plant. No plants have the same green as each other, i love it. Makes a tank look so much brighter and alive.. Very nice!

Also, i kinda need some help with something and l think your the perfect person to ask, but ill make a new thread in case others can also help

Rob,

Your tank is looking fantastic...

Your axies must be longing to jump in and explore. Excellent job.

I love all the green...

oh Rob, re background... you dont want anything thats going to take too much attention on your roots backdrop coz that looks awesome!
I'd say go plan coloured if you can. Otherwise that st up may look too much, if u kno what i mean.

thx for the comments and advise guys

i actually like the grass plants more than the others lol "not sure of the name" maybe take one out cause a bit too many, i was thinking they have a very good root system, so my axies hopefully wont be able to up root em
the duck weed looks nice
happy.gif
but is a bit of a pain in the *&%# i get covered every time i do something in the tank lol, spose it's a good way to thin it hehe
i recon u might be right about the background Jojo
i'm thinking of making something in paintshop pro pretty plain ie: root system same colour

Paints probably a good idea!

got to 38c but with the help of aircond in the house and 2x fans blowing on the tank, my small tank with axies in it didnt go over 22c
happy.gif
made me think hmmm do i really need a chiller, but that was only 1 day now its about 22c outside lol
"bloody weather lol" i love the heat
happy.gif
hotter the better..

I don't know about your axies but mine love the tall grassy plants more than anything. I would keep them if i were you.

My guys always hang out about half way up my grassy plants. They like to sort of clamber through them. But i guess you have to consider visual presentation aswell (I like it how it is though).

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
