I have two beautiful axolotls and I love them dearly. I raised them as part of a herpetology class and this keep them in a college dorm during the academic term. I go to school in northern NY so it’s cool for most of the year but during the early part of semester it’s hard to keep the temperature a good temp for them. Does anyone have any tips for keeping their tank cool without investing hundreds of dollars in an aquarium chiller. I’ve been using ice cubes but the dorm freezers are incredibly slow at freezing ice fully. Does anyone have any knowledge of whether using lunchbox ice packs would work.

aquarium fans are usually a good option. Also im not sure about lunchbox icepacks, but i can recomend frozen plastic water bottles, which i used before i got a water cooler. The only problem with that is that if you put too many at a time in it may cause temperature fluctuations, which cause stress , but other than that they were pretty good. :)
