Hey, my Axie tank is is a 50 litre tank that is 2x1 foot. My juvenile Axie is 3" so the tank size is fine for now. When she is larger would a tank upgrade to a larger tank be recommended.
Technically, that tank is big enough (and much bigger than what is used in, say, research labs), as long as you stay on top of water changes and have good filtration. However, as with most aquatics, bigger is better, both for quality of life and environmental stability. So, yes, an upgrade is recommended.
I wouldnt ever keep an axolotl in a tank less that 80L. I guess thats personal preference but when they grow they look far too big for the tank. Water changes will also be a pain: once a week at the least.
I personally have a 200L for 2 6" and a 120L for a 3". Keeping them in anything smaller would make me feel awful.
I think it is more of personal preference. I knew someone that his in a 12L and they were fine. Just do what you feel is right and what will suit your lotl the best.
50 Liters should be perfectly fine for one axie. Especially for the current size you have, and even when adult. However, if you can ever get the chance, nothing bad can come out of more room for your axie.
