G'day all,
New to the forum so I guess this can be my introduction as well =). I have 4 axies at the moment,
-Gold albino(pretty sure its albino)
-Olive/Green speckled wild type
-Black/Dark speckled wild type
-Black melanoid (blue eyes no rings in eyes, melanoid?)

Not juveniles.

They are currently in a 3 x 1.5 x 1.2 FT (91 x 45 x 36 cm) tank with approx 140 liters in it atm. Plenty of hides and fake plants, with one driftwood piece with a live plant, washed play sand substrate, fluval canister filter and a quality chiller.

I am acquiring 2 more adult axo's soon and currently all four axies live together in peace and sit near/on top of and next to each other all the time without a worry.

Just wondering if the current tank would be to small once the next 2 are introduced? Also what temp should i run the chiller on, its set to 16 Celsius atm , is there a better temp to run??, I read so many different opinions on temp haha.
The next 2 axies are also mature.
Thanks in advance =)

I think your tank would be too small for two extra axolotls and might even be too small for your current stock. The general rule of thumb is to have about 40 liters (10 gallons) of water per axolotl. For 4 axolotls it would mean that you'd need 160 liters minimum! Two extra would increase that number up to 240(!) so you'd have to buy a new tank. Also, my calculations on your tank size say that it would take 140 liters if you fill it up all the way so you'd sure have to buy a new tank if you want to keep more axolotls.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I was considering getting a longer tank with more water capacity anyhow, guess I 'll be getting it now. =)

Is 16 degrees Celsius ( 60.8 F) fine to run ? or would it be better suited at a different temperature? I have read alot about temperatures, I just cant decide on what temp to run.

16 degrees would be fine. Temperatures much above 20 degrees can cause problems.

Good to know you're getting a bigger tank, as soon as I saw "140 liters" my stomach went ALKHFJKAHFD\KJSHGGFKSJHGKJDLG -[that's the technical term]

mine seem to thrive at 15-16C though you may want to put that chiller out of service for abit come winter, anything below 5C also causes problems for axolotls.

You must have some very well behaved axies to not have any aggression problems.

Haha sounds a bit like my technical terms, thanks for the advice much appreciated.

Yeah I was looking at getting a long tank made, with less height more width and length.

Its weird, I put a sufficient amount of hides and plenty of ground space for them to go do there thing but they choose to stay near each other all the time, like 70% of the time there all together wandering around / sitting around. The only time I have seen them snap at each other was when a tail was mistaken for food (was black worms wiggling around near ones tail)

But ill be sure to get enough water capacity for them with the new tank.
