I have decided my newt is a hongkongensuis after looking at a lot of newt pic's. I ive been keeping it in a 5 gallon tank with rocks to climp on and some live plants. But i want to set up my empty 15 gallon as a new home for it. I have had a hard time finding info on setups for them. one site with tell me one thing and them another something different.I want to do something like a Vivarium. like this 62 gal vivarium but more water area and in only a 15 gallon. what do you think? will it work?

An aquaterrarium is not in the best interest of your newt. In captivity they can be considered 100% aquatic if everything is fine, so you really want to give a much greater importance to water volume than land areas. In fact, a floating piece of cork bark should be more than enough as land area, and the rest can be water, which will greatly suit the newt, and will be good for you too, since the more volume, the easier it is to keep perfect.

Although there aren´t caresheet for this genus on CC, i strongly recommend you make a quick search through the forum, there are lots of information for your species.

Oh, and welcome! xD

Thanks for the info. I will set him up in a all water tank with maybe a rock or piece of wood to crawl on instead. at least i can still add underwater plants to make it look natural.
