Hi, I'm trying to set-up an aquarium for a 1.5 inch axolotl. I have a 20 gallon aquarium but it seems really large in comparison to the rather tiny axolotl. I've never cared for an axie this small in size and am unsure where to place him, set-up the tank, and what the best type of food would be for his size. Any sort of advice is appreciated, thanks!

Hello, and welcome to the forum!
I am keeping my 2 inch long juvies in a super large plastic storage bin for now (not filled to the top)
It would be alright to get a temporary 10 gallon for yours though. New, they are only 10-15 dollars at petsmart or petco. Craigslist is a good place to look for tanks also.

It will be fine in the 20 gallon aquarium unless you really don't want it in there. Maybe just fill the 20 gallon only half way if that makes it easier for you to care for him until it's bigger.

I don't know what you mean by "Where to place him" or "set up the tank" But if you look at this post " http://www.caudata.org/forum/f46-be...trates-setups-please-read-before-posting.html " it might help you out. As far as food goes for the little guy, I would either feed frozen bloodworms (buy at petsmart/petco) or earthworms (you will have to chop them up super tiny though. must be smaller than opening of mouth) I am feeding mine frozen krill for the time being just because I haven't had a chance to get bloodworms yet. Also I would keep the tank bare-bottom until it is older (easier to keep clean) and then I would add sand substrate or just keep it bare-bottom.

Anyway, there is a plethora of information on this forum so just dig in :p

Thanks, by where to place him I just meant tank size and by set up I meant the things you covered (substrates, water level, etc.)

Thank you :)
