Hey, i've set up a tank for two axolotls and it came with a light but since axolotls don't like to much light I was wondering whether people turned their lights on or didn't bother, and if so how long for. The tank is out of direct sunlight and doesn't have axolotls inside it yet, (hoping to get them wednesday). Ideally I would like to have the light on a bit because I have live plants, (Java moss, Java fern and Anubis Nana).

As long as you provide dark hiding places, or the plants provide some shade, they will be alright. Many axie owners use lights because of plants, but try keeping it to the minimum requirement.

I have the blind slightly open during the day so mine has natural sunlight. On a night he has a light which is set to blue moonlight. I point it more towards the wall so it's not directly on the tank. It also has a white light for tanks with fish or plants. Mine are all plastic so I don't use it. As long as they have somewhere to hide and get away if it's too light then they will be fine
