Hi again :D

I bought a tank a while ago, its aprox 3 foot by 1 foot and its great the thing is, it didnt come with a lid/cover. i figured i could just buy some sort of cover but im unsure as to what?

I was thinking maybe an aluminium/plastic board and cutting it to size?

Has anyone else had to make a lid for their tank?

I know of people who have used acrylic shower liner with flymesh in between. This allows the water to evaporate in warmer weather which helps to maintain a cooler temperature for your Axies :) The only downside is that it lets a lot of light in.

Clearseal do lids in different sizes we have one not cheap though for what they are but have a big flap that opens up so good for feeding etc.

Could you use a perspex sheet?

I would use egg crate it's very cheap and easy to cut to size. You could even spray paint it black to "match".

What I'm going to do for mine is a DIY screen top... if you youtube "DIY screen top for aquariums" and look for the video made by the user "BulkReefSupplyCom" he does a quick demo of how to do it as well as where you can get the supplies to.

From what I've read, if you're wanting to help keep tank cool, go for mesh or egg crate to allow evaporation and lower the tank temperature by a couple of degrees F. If you don't have any heat problems you could get a class top. :)

Hehe I'm in the uk so I don't have high temp problems :p

What's egg crate? The lumpy boxes your eggs come in? And if so won't it turn to mush when it's wet?

Ideally I just wat some sort of flat lid that I can just lift off when needed, that's why I thought Perspex

I'll have a look at that video thanks :)

They mean plastic egg crates which we don't have over here.
If you go for perspex make sure you get it thick enough or it will start to warp.
