Tank Decor?

I am thinking of making a themed tank for my axolotl's however I was wondering if this was a smart idea, or if the themed items would just take up space, I want an asian inspired tank since my axies have japanese names, However all the decor I can find is useless to the axies. would you attempt a theme or just stick to a natural look with caves and lots of room for axies to swim?

For me it'd depend on the size of the tank. If you have extra floor space then by all means use it and make a cool tank. If you have a smaller tank then maybe go for the natural theme or smaller decor. But it is your tank and as long as your axies are comfy you should make it look however you want.

I will be setting up my 40 long ( 4 ft tank) with 3 axolotl's .... So to me it will be maxed already ...

I have a Japanese theme tank myself. I have a spirit gate that holds up S'Miguel's hide to give him space and a Marimo moss ball is a very zen little thing - plus it makes a nice lotl beanbag chair since he likes to sit on it. You can also put up a background of something thematic. You can see the gate in this photo.

I have Marimo in all my tanks, I am actually thinking about getting some more. I am debating ... A lot of the ornaments are small, expensive, and useless.

You could always make the hide the main feature, there are lots of those out there that are supposed to be sunken Asian temples or tea garden bridges - that way you could get the look and take care of the hide all at once.

All the ones I have seen here are way too small for an adult Axolotl.
