Tank cleaning

So I have a fine sand as the substrate in my tank, and I was wondering the best way to clean the feces or other debris that gathers at the bottom of the tank. I have a gravel vacuum thingy but it will suck up the sand as well. I like my vacuum but does anyone know a good technique to get the bottom of the tank clean and clear without any issues removing sand?

Use a Turkey baster for the poops, and to get bacteria out of the sand during water changes, just stir up the sand and suck the water.

This is how I've done it in the past, it works really well.
However, be sure you stir your sand regularly, if it sits too long you get gas pockets in it which, when stirred, will gas your axolotls!
