Hi everyone,
I don't know if it just began a week ago or that I've just didn't notice but my salamanders started to shake their tails, both of them, a few times a day... much like a rattle snake... only the tip of it.
Anyone familliar with this act? what does it means?
thanks!

What kind of salamanders are they?

It could be tail-fanning, do you know the sex of your salamanders?

Alex

well, they are both fire salamanders, and they are 5 months old so I'm not sure it's related to their sex... and they have an excellent apetit, so, I reckon they're not sick... don't know...

Have you done anything to increase breeding activity? Like increase humidity, or feeding more,etc...

No... salamanders can't breed 'till they're about 2 years old or even more, so it can't be anything that is related to breeding, sexing ect...
Please! help me people, if it's a bad sign I should do something about it...

When they shake their tails, are their tails up in the air? I'm not familiar with fire salamanders, but I've seen ambystomatids do this as a defense mechanism, when they are disturbed/frightened/threatened/annoyed.

well, don't know, I don't think they are scared or something... the pretty much like me, when i enter my room the are trying to get closer to me cause they know I have worms:)
hope it's just their characters...
