Hello all. I just got a Cali newt beacuse I wanted to incorporate it into a carnivorous plant terrarium. I know that torosa is relatively terrestrial so I thought it would be a great combination. However I did not know about the possible pH concerns of using peat moss as a substrate. I currently have a terrarium set up with a 50/50 potting soil/peat moss substrate. I was wondering if the substrate is really that dangerous for my newt (I have gotten varried responses so far on google), and if it is what I can do to give my plants a high acid substrate and keep the newt happy too.

Thanks all,
Ross

Acidic substrate should be no problem. Most leaves from the forests are acidic too.

You may have T.granulosa. You should be vareful that the animal doesn´t become prey.

Thanks for the advice. Looks like the newt is more of a threat to the plants though he is trying to dig at them and walks all over them so I may have to rethink my setup.
