Hi

These were a bit of a rescue job from poor conditions at a pet shop.

I have housed them in cool conditions 12 - 16 degs. A terestrial set up with a small water dish. Dry soil with some damp moss patches so they can choose. Lots of hiding places both damp and dry. I have been feeding them medium crickets, worms and wax worms. I have seen one of them eat but suspect both have. They are super nervous and I have only seen them move at night with the aid of a red filtered torch. I have had them for about 3 weeks now and they seem lothargic but I wonder if this is the temps.

I would appreciate any input into their housing and bettering the conditions I am keeping them in.More photos of their set up can be seen in my album. I don't usually go for rescues however these were in such poor conditions that I felt I could not leave them there.

Thanks

Dave

These look more like Kweichowenis to me, not Shanjing. In terms of setup I prefer the actual soil to be moist, so the you know for sure there's enough moisture. Other than that, everything else seems fine to me. Just make sure both are eating, the temps stay low and you should be good. Good luck.

I have had my Kweichows for almost a year now. They look similar to yours. It sounds like you are doing everything right. Mine only come out in the evening. If you feed them on a consistent schedule, they will eventually start associating you with food and will come out when you are close to their terrarium. Now mine beg like puppies.

One thing - you say a "small water dish". Mine like to soak in their dish periodically. I would provide a dish big enough so that they can submerge themselves completely.

Thanks for the input, I think you are right about the species. I can't find a care sheet for these guys however I'm assuming it's the same as T Shanjing?

The dish is large enough for them to soak and I have caught both of them taking a dip at night.

Cheers

That sounds great Dave. Almost everything I learned about these guys was from this site. I believe it is the same care as for Shanjing, but someone more knowledgeable about Sangjing can correct me.
