Hi,

So I have noticed that my T. Granulosa 'rub' there mouth area after getting a worm all or almost all the way in their mouth. My worms are chopped when I feed them so they are more bite sized. Is this to scrape off slime? They kind of turn their head sideways and rub a bit, sometimes several times. Has anyone else observed this behavior in their newts? Does anyone know why they do this? -Seth

I have never noticed this with mine, but maybe it's to get the slime from the worms off. I feed mine pieces of about a half inch long, not chopped.

Yes I feed mine like that too.

Anyone else notice this in their newts?

Most of my salamanders do this.

My C. pyrrhogaster do it sometimes when they eat snails. They get the slime on their faces and then sand sticks to the slime so they have to rub it off on the plants etc.

I see,
thanks for the info guys.

I am guessing that it is to get the slime or other unwanted item off.
