T. gran tank temperature

hey all! It's me once again. K, so I made it to school with my T. grans! They're doing great! I wanted to see what you all thought about the temperature of their tank. I have them sitting in front of the air conditioner..their water temperature is about 59-60 F. Their summer temps are supposed to be 60-70, correct? Is their temperature being in the 50's right now alright? I know it's not a pressing matter but I was wondering if I should try to get their temp up a smidge. Or do you guys think they're just peachy? I'm glad their temp is a little low rather than too high. What do you all think??

That temperature is certainly going to be OK for them. They probably love it. However, there are some risks: (1) They will probably be warmer than this during the winter, so their sense of what season it is will be messed up. If you don't care about any possible breeding, then this may not be an important issue. (2) If you have an AC outage (or long power failure) they might be at greater risk. If they were accustomed to a somewhat warmer temperature, they might be more able to tolerate a spike of temperature up to 80F, for example. Obviously, if it goes to 100F, they are dead either way, but being acclimated to a bit more warmth (like 70-72, for example) may make them more tolerant of a spike.

thanks! they have been around 72 for a month or so in the summer and I try to keep it in the mid to high 60's for that reason. Thanks so much!!!!

My granulosas have been kept between 74-77 all summer long with no apparent detrimental effects. I've had to feed them more frequently, however, in part to their increased metabolism caused by the higher temps.
