So i was watching my pair of dobrogicus when i saw the female smelling a leaf. I thought..."hey that looks familiar"...then she started laying to my surprise and unstable health xD
The thing is after she finished and i recovered my breath and cardiac rhythm, i checked and saw she is not laying eggs as i know them. What she laid looks like a compressed egg, more like a smashed(hamburger like xD) egg. I´m not sure but i think it´s all white, i don´t know if this specie´s eggs are supossed to be enterily white or not.
The "egg", well i counted three of them, is sticky to the leaf as a normal one.
The thing is my male has been showing a little lightening in his colours, and the sheen on the tail is brighter, but he has not developed a crest. His cloaca is completely black and i´d say different than before...and i´ve seen a very short courting attempt(total failure). I don´t think he is ready to breed...i think he might be getting ready though...i´m waiting for him to develop a crest and full breeding colours.
So are those things infertile eggs? or the fact that they are lateraly compressed means there´s some aditional problem, maybe with the female? Please give me some help with this, i´m still trying to recover from watching her lay...too much for me right now xD

Rodrigo, the eggs of this species are rather small and whitish (compared to those of Cynops sp., for example). Depending on the light they might look completely white. They might also be more "oval" than "round".
So the eggs of your animals could even be fertile. Remove them from the setup and watch closely if they (or fungus) will develop.

The thing is they are not oval, they are much more compressed. I just gave a closer look, and two of them that were laid before the one i saw her lay, are less compressed than before, like they were slowly becoming rounder. This has me really intrigued hehe. I´ll take a close look on them and see what happens. I set up a plastic laying strip to see if i can get her to lay there and have a better view of the eggs.
Btw, do you think it´s possible they might be fertile even if the male is not in breeding attire?

Thank you! Excuse my complete newbieness. It´s the first time they breed and i was just too overwhelmed between the breeding(completely unexpected) and the very compressed look of the just laid eggs, i kind of panicked a bit :p
Now it´s time for suffering and stress until i see some development..if they are fertile i´m going to loose my mind xD

All duds...:(
She hasn´t laid in the last 6 days...i´ll keep hoping....

Too bad. Is the male fully crested yet? Any sign of courtship?

Nope...the male is mostly the same...the crest is even slightly smaller now than a week ago...
It´s the second time he is in "breeding attire" and both times ha hasn´t fully developed. I wonder if thereçs something wrong that keeps him from becoming fully developed....

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
