My Spanish Ribbed Newt Newton looks to have a swollen cloaca, is this normal? I check him (or her) often to make sure he's doing good, and just noticed it today. He's eating his worms fine, he's also been growing well. He used to have a problem in the beginning where he'd spasm like crazy but it looks like it only happens when the lights in the room are on. Thank you!

He is a beautiful little guy. The cloaca will tend to swell when they are in breeding mode. This usually happens in the spring months, but since it is kept in a tank, temperature variations and other things could cause his hormones to rise. If that is the case, I wouldn't think it is too much to worry about. However, I would keep an eye on your water quality and your little friend there and take notes on any changes. Hope this helps!
