I was unaware of temp requirements of my poor axie so due to the recent heat wave my poor thing developed fungus. Spike was treated with twice daily salt baths for 5 days and kept in the fridge and the fungus is now gone. He is now located in a cool box on the kitchen floor which is maintaining <20 degrees cause the tank is just too warm. he floated for a day after being removed from the fridge did a big poo and is now ok. But is still very sluggish. i am going to have a lot of trouble with water temperature due to summer starting. I'm not keen to keep him in the coolbox in kitchen for too long. Is there any water cooling tips from those in hot climates?? What are my survival chances? Should I just give him back to the pet shop or try again? I don't want the poor thing to suffer any i've only had him 3 months.

Giving him back to the petshop wouldn't be a good idea, his chances would probably be just as limited and would end up in the care of someone else who may be given the wrong information and subsequently be worse off than before. I'd say try again.

Chances of survival will depend on how much care and effort you put into looking after him, even going to extremes of putting him into the fridge for the summer, if you're able. Some people have had to do this as they cannot afford chillers, nor can they maintain cool temperatures during the summer.

Here are some cooling methods: http://www.caudata.org/cc/articles/cooling.shtml

Do you have anywhere in your house that is cool at all, that you can keep it down low and away from direct light/heat and use something like pedestal fans directed at the tankwater surface?

Also, how long is his tank and does he have any companions and where is it placed?
