Newbie owner here, and I got Chalchi and Xochi earlier in June when they were too small to be sexed. It turns out my question has been answered because I'm pretty sure there are eggs in my tank now.

As a college student with very limited resources, what do I do? I definitely can't rear a batch of eggs myself, and I don't know protocol with selling them.

Is this what you found:

Or is this:

If it's the first one, those are eggs, if it's the second one, that's just the boy/s laying their seed out.

In my case, I have 640 eggs, and they mist likely are hatching while I'm out of the country for another 4 days. I had a member here show interest in them, and I'm sending them for free, with him picking up the shipping.

Most staes in the US don't appear to object to axies - you may be able to sell/give away the eggs if you get going quickly - they are best shipped in the first week. You can advertise here in the 'for sale'.

Other than that you can freeze the eggs to prevent them from hatching.

Yup, they're eggs. There were about 20 when I left the house this morning around 10:15 and I'm a little afraid to see the state of the tank when I return around 4. I'm going to put out an APB today to see if anyone locally wants any, otherwise I'll put out feelers on here tomorrow.

The kids came to me via next-day shipping in little plastic baggies packed with some ice, but are eggs shipped frozen or thawed?

And now I need to separate them so this doesn't happen again...

Axies tend to lay hundreds of eggs, if not a thousand....

Freezing eggs will kill them. You can ship then in a small bottle, bag, even sandwiched in a CD case. Ice is used to ship live axies to keep them cool, eggs won't survive if you pack them with ice.

If you use ice to ship eggs you must make sure the ice cannot touch or freeze the eggs, or it will kill the eggs. But TBH it will melt way to quickly to matter anyway.

If you chill them and then insulate them they should be fine.

There are plenty of shipping thread here, have a look for some ideas and advice.
