We have three Axolotls', one each of gold, albino and black. The Gold one (Sunny) has sometime today started to lay some eggs. We are unsure if the other two are boys or girls. The three of them are all in the one tank. What do we do now?? We have never had this happen before and need help, do we remove the eggs to a new tank or the fish, does it matter? What about feeding? We need help!!

Hey Karen
You should move the axolotls out of the tank and keep the eggs seperate from them, even though the axolotls wont eat any eggs they might on an accident, when my axolotls had eggs i put the eggs into a little fish bowl with no stones or anything in it, when the axolotls hatched i moved them into another fish bowl with no gravel in it aswell to make it easier to feed them and cleaner as there was no egg sack stuff in the tank with them... happy breeding karen best of luck

You can feed the baby axolotls brine shrimp or daphnea but i dont know if you can get daphine in australia or not, i feed my axolotls brine shrimp and they seem to be eating it fine, i have to hatch the shrimp on my own, there are lots of pages on this forum saying how to hatch them to...

.if you do not want to have baby axies then you can just leave them in with the adults and once they hatch the adults will eat them or you could just cull them by putting them in a strong alcohol. if you choose to keep some eggs then its a good idea to make sure you will be able to give them away/sell them all. im not to sure how you will find out which axie is the dad, i would look for the one with the biggest cloaca(the bit between its back legs)and just say that one is the dad. theres lots of helpful info on breeding here www.axolotl.org. good luck!
