As the title says, i do a water change and all is fine and clear. 24 hours later and the water is slightly clouded, 24 hours after that and it looks like it hasn't been cleaned for ages!

This has only recently started happening and nothing has changed which is why i'm a little confused!

Any ideas would be great...

Check the water parameters and that will help you determine what is happening. Usually quickly fouled water indicates over feeding, too many animals in a tank, or a failure of the filtering system (biological most time I "think").
Ammonia, Nitrites, Nitrates.

Someone smarter than I will chime in soon.

Hi mkw,

A lady I know here had the same issue. The problem was infusoria, which are microscopic organisms often bred as food for fish fry and other small aquatic animals, like Daphnia. She was bringing the infusoria into her tank with Daphnia. The infusoria fed on a piece of wood she had in the tank. She removed the wood, boiled in in salt wate,r then soaked it for 3 weeks. Meanwhile she only fed her fish with live foods, no flakes, and starved the infusoria out.

Does any of this sound like it could be your situation? If you have a microscope, you can see the infusoria with it.

Hi,

@Mac - stop selling yourself short. ;)

As Mac said, if we could know the parameters, that could be a big help as well as what you are feeding them. What size tank - filter system might be good to know too.

Is it a white cloud or is it dirty looking - off white? Have you cleaned your filter recently?

Sorry for the questions, but there are many things that could cause this cloud.

This is not to discount Eva's theory either - do you have wood in the tank?

Quick note: Shannon and Mac are right, cloudiness can be caused by lots of things. The only thing that reminded me of the other situation is that the cloudiness comes after a water change and then increases. I should have written "a similar issue" and not "the same".

Any change in your tank?

I swapped over the filter to a carbon sponge and that seems to have cleared it up a bit for starters.

I have no wood in the tank and im currently feeding them bloodworms and ocasionally meal worms as a treat.

I'll give it a few more days with the water changes to see if it thins out further.

I don't have a water test kit but that will be my next step i think!
