Between Saturday evening and this morning, my enormous paddletail newt has developed a serious case of dropsy/bloat! She is in a 20L with a bare bottom, plants, and sponge filters, I just cleaned the tank and added a new plant last week. After calling around I found that my vet around the corner sees exotics so I took her in. They're keeping her overnight while they try to treat her and see if she responds to anything while I take some her tank water in to be tested. Is there anything I can look for as a potential cause?

The water test showed her nitrates to be a bit high, and I also realized that I forgot to plug her fan back in after last week's water change. The temperature was 66 and might have been a little higher overnight, I left a space heater going for my birds last night. The tank temperature is usually in the mid-50's. Could it be heat stress? Bacterial infection? I'm worried about leaving her at the vet overnight...
