Question: Substrate worry

Hey guys i recently bought a gold Axolotl which i named Ernie. i bought the finest substrate i could but im really worried about him because he keeps on eating it. please can you guys tell me if the substrate i bought is alright. cheers.

I can't be too sure but it looks like fine pebbles/rocks?? not sand, personally i would prefer to be safer than sorry and either switch to sand or bare bottom. It may seem like a hassle now but will be worth it in the long run

If he keeps eating it then it should be removed.

I had a sand eater who ended up being blocked and regurgitated over a teaspoon of sand.

Some axolotls can only be kept in bare bottom tanks. If he is eating it then he may be such an axolotl.
