I've been growing up some hatchlings, and now they're getting a bit big for just food tubs, I'm setting up a spare little fish tank, while I get a permanent tank sorted.

I have a bit of spare very fine aquarium gravel/grit- maybe 1mm max diameter- and I was wondering, will this be OK for axolotls that are only about 3-4" long? I know adults are prone to occasionally eating larger grade gravel, but would the same problem occur with this grade and smaller tiddlers, or would it just go straight through if they did eat a bit?
I'd like to put something on the bottom, as I really don't like bare bottomed tanks, and I don't think much else does either.

Thanks for any advice!

I dont use anything with my babies. It is saver that way. I had plants that were weighted at the bottom and I put cups and hides etc in the tank, the babies seemed fine with it

Thanks, guess I'll leave it out. I just had half a bag of it spare, so not enough for a fish tank, as I always want it deep enough for plants... I'll just get them some nice tank-safe rock caves.
