What is the best way to test the PH of my substrate? I added sphagnum moss to the land portion of my tank about 6 weeks ago, and now one of my tiger salamanders (Ambystoma mavortium mavortium) has become extremely lethargic and won't eat.
Other threads have suggested that sphagnum is too acidic for Tiger Salamanders, but I'm not sure how to test it. The second salamander is still healthy, active, and eating fine. They really seem to like the moss since it's fluffy wet texture provides good burrowing substrate. However, i would like to know if it's harming them.
Also, what should the PH be for tiger salamanders. I would like to know the optimal water PH and substrate PH if possible.
Any help you might provide is greatly appreciated.
