It has been many many years since I have had any fish/animal that lives in water, so I was hoping on some useful tips on doing compete water changed for newly hatched axolotls without stressing them out. Is it a big shock for them to just be transported from one container to a new one (not having he temperature the exact same?)? Should I let their container sit in the new one's water to regulate the temperature like you do when you get new fish (or how I remember doing it)? Any recommendations? Thanks!

I have my babies all floating in the top of the parents' tank, which I then draw the water for water changes from. It ends up at the same temperature, I know the parameters are stable, and it makes it much easier to conduct the changes.
As to the process (At least once a day, and always after a bbs meal), I move them into a smaller holding container, check for anyone hiding, pour the used water back into the adults' tank so the waste products can be processed by the filtration system, refill the containers and depending on if any gunk managed to make its way into the container, either pour them back into the new container or scoop them up and move them individually across.
Hope your babies bring you much joy!

I leave the water sitting out in the same room as the hatchlings so the water temperature stays roughly the same.

Hey sorry to hi-jack this thread..... How exactly do you move one baby Axolotl to another container for cleaning & water change? Hands? Spoon? ..... your mouth? :D For some reason I cant find any info on that part.

I don't know if this is right, but I got a small fish net with fine netting. I have a container set up already and try to gently pour out the axolotl into the net over a bowl and then quickly invert the net into the new container.

I was wondering the same. I use a tiny jar, a spoon or a small net to move them from one place to another.

I use a spoon but you could suck out all the mess first with a syringe then use a tea strainer or a net.

When I do water changes on the baby axies, I usually take out 50-70% of their water and then put new conditioned water back in. I find that doing this its better cause they're getting freshwater every time and I've had no deaths doing this.

My last batch from last year I was taking water out from the parents' tank but found that the babies were dying the next day, even though the parents water had great water levels.

The easiest way I've found is to use two containers. Suck out all the bad water, old food, etc. until you've got nothing left in the container, and dump the little guy into the new container.

A turkey baster works great.
