Stressed Axolotl?

Well I know that forward facing gills are a sign of a stressed axolotl, however my axolotls seem perfectly fine. Nothing has changed in their set up at all either, but the positioning of their gills seems a little off to me. Can someone confirm what's going on for me? I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have the same issue with two of mine, their gills are just like your 1st and 3rd picture but they seem fine and happy and they were like it when we got them from the petshop. Our tank is still new and ammonia and nitrite isnt as low as it should be but they have still water (i read strong current is normally the reason for forward gills unless im wrong, still very new to axolotl keeping)

You're correct about the current. However, the Tetra 2-10 gallon filter I'm using doesn't create a powerful current. They've been with this filter since I've had them and have bred several times as well and the babies are quite hardy. One baby in fact, has outgrown the rest of the group and has been moved to a tank with my axanthic albino, both of which are about the length of my finger. The others are much smaller still. And now I'm raising another 180 or so larvae as well. Very fun The thing is, my wild type and luesistic have been recovering from losing their gills and their gills have been growing back. They're eating just fine and nothing seems out of the ordinary. My golden albino's gills seemed have grown considerably longer as well. And thank you, they're very amazing creatures

Your whie and black axolotls seem to be fine only slightly curled. But your golden may be stressed. although curled gills is not always a sure sign of being stressed. Something to look out for would be if the tip or their tail is curled or curling. That is a good sign of stressed axolotl. Some other signs would be a change in their behaviour or not eating.

]Hello my name is Ally. My axolotl seemed stressed and I was told to put him the frigde, he has been in there for about a week now. He color came back but his mouth is still wide open. I went to switch him in the other container and I thought he was dead because he was not moving at all he only started moving when I took him out and then he was upside down when I put him in the new container and was having a hard time move and his mouth is still wide open.. I am not sure what to do..can you please help me.
