Recently my newts have appeared slightly more lively than before, i added a lamp to simulate night and day maybe thats it? but anyways i wasnt sure what to make of these spots? they look like little white spots along the back and side of the one newt, they are sort of uniform looking so im not sure what to make of them. are they normal? or is this an innfection? if it is how do i treat it?

It sounds like you are describing the lateral line. It´s much the same as can be found in fish, and extends into patterns on the head. They are only visible when the animals are in full aquatic mode physiologically speaking. Nothing to worry about at all.
