Hello everyone!

We are currently in the process of setting up our aquarium for our son's future Axolotl. We are having so much fun and are quickly becoming addicted!

This morning I noticed these odd long, black fibers coming off of two of our Hornwort plants. We purchased the plants, along with some Vallisneria plants and five Cherry Shrimp on Friday from a very reputable, privately owned pet shop in our town which runs a wonderful Axolotl program.

We had our water tested on Friday as well and the numbers were:
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitate - 10
GH - 17
KH - 10
pH - 8.2
Temperature - 66 degrees

We have a 30 gallon long aquarium with a sponge filter and some LED full spectrum lights.

Does anyone have any idea what these fibers might be? Should I ignore them, clean them out or freak out and go thermonuclear on the tank?

Thank you for any advice you can give me.

Looks like algae. Hard to tell from the picture, but I'd guess hair algae or black beard algae. They won't hurt the animals, though they're not pretty.
