My babies hatched about five weeks ago now!!! Mama and Papa are Leucistics.

I have an ALL WHITE baby!!! Now I know what you're thinking... Oh, that's easy, an Albino. But nope, strangely, this baby is a bit bloated, and white from the tips of its little gills ALL the way down to its little tail, and I'm not sure what to make of it. I have it in a floating breeder trap in my axie larvae tank, just to make sure it gets extra food, and is easily monitored and observed. But I still don't quite know what to make of it. (No pictures sadly, my phone doesn't take any quality pictures, and of course, I cracked my camera screen, BUT I'll see what I can try to get up...) Mind you, his little gills are a bit crooked and curled, and he was born this way. So I suppose my big question is; is he most likely going to survive, (he's made it this far...) or do you think he may not make it to adult-hood?

And advice / experience / stories would be great! I mean, it's not like I don't have TONS of other babies! I'd just hate to see my special little one not make it.

Thanks!!!

-Sam

Albinos can look white all over when they are young and it's only when they get older do you see the red eyes and gills. What colour are the parents of this little one? It would be quite unusual just to have just one out of all the eggs though.

That's EXACTLY how he/she looks, but with more crooked gills. Both parents and grandparents and great grandparents are leucistics (look at that genetic train!), this is the only one that looks like that. It's still eating and living fine, with the occasional tilt to the side as it swims (But what baby's don't do that! XD). Ideas?

I'm really new to axies so I'm afraid I can't help :( But that looks really pretty, it's a shame they don't stay the same colour into adulthood...but maybe yours might...it sounds like an anomalie. More pictures as it gets older would be great. Even if it develops the pink, it'd be interesting to see the process.

Some of my larvae looked all white, they came from albino and golden albino parents. I'm not entirely sure how the mutation comes about in your situation but albino babies do tend to look pretty much all white - much like the juvie in my avatar, though he has a yellowish tinge because he took more after the golden father than his albino mother.

If your little one is eating well and all I wouldn't worry too much about it and just enjoy that you got a special one! :D
