So I'm planning on starting a tank for a single axolotl in a 20 gallon long aquairum. I wanted to get a canister filter for it and I was wondering if the Rena Filstar canister would be ok even though it's made for a 45 gallon.
I really wanted to get the rena just because people have mentioned that it comes with a spray bar and I'm not too sure how to make one if I was to get another canister. Any help would be appreciated!

I think almost all canister filters come with a spray bar. For instance i have one from JBL, and it has one and my old Eheim-filter had one as well.

So that really shouldn't be the deciding factor. As far as Rena goes, I have no experiences with the brand but JBL and Eheim are safe choices, in my opinion.

So even though it's for a forty gallon and I'll be using it for a 20 gallon long that won't be a problem?

I've never used the canister filter you had mentioned but i use cascade filters which are rather inexpensive and have multiple stages which are good for adding the bio stages and carbon. The smallest i believe is rated up to 40g but i have used one that is rated up to 125g on tanks as small as 30g and have not had a problem with too much flow because the intake and output are adjustable with valves. oh wow! I hadn't even seen this one around but it's cheaper and has raving reviews, think I just found my filter haha thanks! Do you know if it's ok to use any kind of decorations for the tank? I went to Petsmart the other day and wanted to get a few, but I wasn't sure if some of them would be toxic for the lotls, and if they are then what would be best to use?
Thanks for being so helpful though!
