Hi all! I have been attempting to cycle a 50 gallon tank. Fishless cycle. I did use water conditioner and have been adding ammonia (not fish food) and live nitrifying bacteria - I only added the bacteria once on day 1. The filter was not running until the NEXT day, so it’s possible that that is where I messed up. Also, I only had a single fake plant in there until day 5 when I added 50 lb sand and a few decorations for bacteria to be able to attach to. Did I bury bacteria by doing this? Sand took 3 days to settle (no water changes). My readings have been between 2.0 - 4.0 ppm ammonia, no nitrites whatsoever & I checked pH on day 10 (between 7.0 & 7.2). It’s now day 14 & still no nitrites. Am I being impatient? Did I mess up by having the filter off through conditioning? Did I kill bacteria by adding sand? Thanks for your help!!

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
