I had a day off work today so I decided to give the garden pond a spruce up and clear all the fallen leaves ready for spring. As I was cleaning I came upon these three characters which I photographed before releasing back into the pond:
All Palmates (T Helvetius) a female and 2 males. Last year it was a lot colder and I didn't see any newts till the end of Feb.
I also found this under some leaf litter, it must be either a smooth newt or palmate. It was tiny.
