I have had my spotted salamander for about 2 months now and I just noticed that one of his back legs in injured. He does not use it often and it seems to just drag and there is discoloration around where the leg meets the joint. This is the first time I have noticed any issues and I try to check him every few weeks. I have a mixture of forest floor and organic soil substrate and I have been feeding him crickets and earth worms. I have noticed that he has been in his water bowl a lot more lately. What should I do?

I would personally watch the injury very carefully for the development of sores.
It sounds like you have good substrate, but how often do you mist?
You should take him to a vet for a better diagnosis and treatment.
Also, take a look on caudata culture for an article about treating illness. There is a section about missing and broken limbs.
Hopefully this helps. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I ended uptaking him to the vet because I was very worried.

Good for you, when in doubt, go to a vet. You're very lucky to have a vet that can help you.
