[FONT=Arial, Verdana, sans-serif] Hi all,

I have a quick healthcare question about a spotted salamander. A friend of mine says he's spotted salamander has a large scratch on its mouth. He's put the salamander in a separate "quarantine" tank. What product(s) can he use to help the salamander heal faster and prevent an infection? I've hears Bactine can be used on amphibians but wasn't sure how true that was. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Unless it's infected or isn't showing signs of healing, I wouldn't do anything. Keep it clean and cold and it should heal up fine. Salamanders are masters of healing.

I would agree with Kaysie. For the tank, I would use moistened unbleached or white paper towels with crumpled paper towels for hides, changed every other day or when soiled....just to keep dirt or other substrate out of the wound as a precaution until it starts healing.

Thanks guys. I was thinking along the same lines but wanted to know what others thought. :)
