Right now my only light source is a pretty trippy black light. Been reading and searching forums but the only info I can find is regarding axitols. Can I use a black light in my Sal tank? I heard about UV issues on skin but not specifically mentioned for sallies.

Thanks again.

Salamanders are nocturnal and have very little exposure to UV during their terrestrial life. There have been many studies into the relationship between increased UV-B and amphibian declines. For these 2 reasons alone you should not use a UV light source. My spotted salamanders have lived without lighting for over 10 years, it's really not necessary, unless you insist on growing plants and then you should look for a very low wattage, low heat, day light bulb solution.
